Rifle caliber rounds fired by two unknown assailants on bicycles have left a 15-year-old Muslim boy wounded and recovering in hospital following a drive-by shooting in Detroit on Friday.

The boy, visiting from Indiana to celebrate Ramadan, was seated outside a mosque enjoying a pizza with his friends during an iftar fast breaking meal when the incident occurred.

Rifle caliber rounds went through a nearby bakery hitting the boy in the shoulder.

Police have not ruled the incident out as a possible hate crime.
