The US State Department has approved the sale of 600 Sidewinder air-to-air missiles plus associated equipment valued at $544m to Israel amid the Gaza crisis.

The associated equipment includes missile support and testing tools, spare parts for repairs, training and equipment for personnel, and related logistics and support services.

The US seeks to aid Israel in boosting its defense capacity.  The sale of the Sidewinder missile package would contribute to strengthening the IAF as well as raise the level of its cooperation with the US Air Force.

Raytheone Missile Systems has been chosen as the prime contractor for the program.
