BREAKING: CDC issues “all hands on deck” call to the Ebola crisis in West Africa

by The Daily Lede

The Center for Disease Control has issued it’s highest alert to the Ebola crisis in West Africa.

CDC chief Tom Frieden said Wednesday on Twitter, “Ops Center moved to Level 1 response to give the extension to Nigeria & potential to affect many lives.”

On a scale of 1-6, level 1 is the highest and signals that increased staff and resources will be devoted to the outbreak.

Tom Skinner of the CDC said that a level 1 alert has not been issued since 2009 when it was put out in response to H1N1 flu.

To date, a total of 932 people have died from the virus in Sierra Leone, Guinea, Liberia and Nigeria since the disease began to spread in March of this year.
