Eastern Ukraine fighters willing to accept ceasefire

by The Daily Lede

The newly proclaimed PM of Donestk, Aleksandr Zakharchenko, said pro-Russian fighters in eastern Ukraine are willing to accept a ceasefire to avoid a humanitarian catastrophe.

Yesterday both the UK and the US agreed that any humanitarian mission into Ukraine by Russian peacekeeping forces would be unjust and illegal.

Mr. Zakharchenko says the city of Donestk is surrounded by Ukrainian forces and the pro-Russian fighters in that region are now willing to accept a ceasefire.  It is believed that this claim is being made to increase international pressure to allow a Russian humanitarian mission to take place.

Reports of Russian vehicles, troops and military hardware having already crossed over into the Ukraine have surfaced over the last 24 hours, but Russia has denied any allegations of such incursions into Ukrainian territory.
