Canada sending military advisers to Iraq

Canada will deploy several dozen military personnel to Iraq as advisers to security forces fighting IS in Northern Iraq, said a spokesperson from Prime Minister Harper’s office.

The Canadian’s will join American advisers currently stationed in the region helping to aid local forces “to be more effective against the threat posed by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant by providing strategic and tactical advice to Iraqi forces.”

The troops will initially be deployed for a period of thirty days and will involve “several dozen members of the Canadian Armed Forces acting in an advisory and assistance capacity.”
