Russian government proposes to ban foreign air traffic controllers working in Russia

by The Daily Lede

A draft was submitted to Russia’s lower house on Thursday proposing the ban on foreign air traffic controllers working in Russia.

The draft states that due to the daily exposure to confidential information such as flight times and routes of aircraft transporting senior Russian officials, the positions for the carrying out of activities involving airspace management, organization and maintenance of air traffic should be reserved for citizens of the Russian Federation.

Currently, only airline pilots and flight crew of Russian commercial aircraft are required to be citizens of the Russian Federation.
